Subaru does the same thing. Unless you think an “STI” oil cap is going to add 53HP.

Don’t you know? Your BMW takes in 20% more air through black kidneys! Plus the ///M decals give the car the hopes that it’ll live up to the history of its touring car ancestors.

US maybe, BMW Canada HATES Jalops. I was pretty much shown the door when I mentioned ordering a manual car. I was lucky they let me roam around the showroom when I mentioned RWD.
They’re trying so hard to be fracking Audi here.

It contributes to the man’s performance in bed.
*Mr. Regular grunts* “Uuuoouunnnnaahhhh! BLYACKKK GRULLZZ!”
I would say this complaint applies more to carbon fiber trim bits.
Because they are not mis-categorized. They are sold as performance enhancing parts. Sure, they don’t weight much, but you’re adding some weight to look sporty, even though everyone knows you’re a poser.
But, if that gets people turgid then sure. Spend the $745 on a spoiler that doesn’t really contribute to the car’s performance.
Meanwhile, people like me will use that money for new tires or stuff that actually matters.
